About Pack 4

Welcome to Cub Scout Pack 4 of Pasadena, CA!

We have been recognized by BSA performance standards as GOLD, the highest level. We are a diverse and inclusive group, with families from many neighborhoods, and kids from public, private, and parochial schools in Altadena, Pasadena, and La Canada.

We are hosted by Westminster Presbyterian Church, where Boy Scout Troop 4 has been in continuous charter for over 100 years, and is home to the legendary "Scout Haus" scout meeting room with memorabilia dating back decades lining the walls.

Like our chartering organization, we welcome ALL into our pack! We sometimes get asked about religion and scouting, since we are hosted by a church. Spirituality is a traditional element of scouting - whatever that means for you, be you devout or agnostic. Like all groups, meetings begin traditionally with the Scout Oath, Law,  Prayer, and then we move on to other activities. Any Scouting Adventures relating to religion or spirituality are done at home to honor your personal beliefs. Our prayers range from seasonal celebrations of various religions to sayings about mindfulness or honoring current events such as Hispanic Heritage.

We are active year-round. (See our Calendar for specific activities and dates.) Each year we have our Pinewood Derby kit car race, the Blue & Gold awards banquet, and the June Pack Graduation Ceremony.

Like all Cub Scout Packs, Pack 4 is divided into different age groups, called Dens, which are divided by grade levels Kinder through 5th, with their own adult leader. Lions and Tigers (Kinder and 1st grade tend to do their advancements at home, but parents may choose to meet together or meet up with the older dens and do their meetings at the Scout Haus on Wednesday evenings.)

Pack meetings are the third Wednesday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm. We create a natural space for the younger kids to leave early if their parents choose.

Dens meet 2-3 times a month separately from the Pack meetings. Their schedules are determined by the Den Leader. We are trying to move toward weekly Den meetings, as they create continuity for the group, and ease if a Scout needs to miss a meeting.

The program is set by BSA and pack leadership. Leaders are volunteer adults, guided by the Cub Scouts of America handbook and training programs to keep kids safe.

Each pack has its own extra activities, so make sure you ask about those. Pack 4 explores camping: we usually do one beach, one mountain and one desert camping trip each year. We also enjoy surfing, rock-climbing, "Things That Fly," and a host of other fun activities. Check out the Home page to see pictures of some of our activities. Things that Roll in conjunction with CHP has become our Fall recruiting activity, and it's also a wonderful community service!

Each year, the Cubs earn badges based on topics such as hiking, nature, science, citizenship, first aid, sports, and more. They learn life skills, leadership, and teamwork hard to get anywhere else. When an adventure is completed ("Do Your Best") a Cub Scout receives recognition in the form of an adventure loop or pin. At the end of the year, a Cub advances to the next rank during an Advancement ceremony.

If your child is in 6th grade or above please check out Boy Scout Troop 4 for more information.
